What the app records, and where it goes

Chaos Screen Recorder captures your device's screen, and — depending on the settings you choose — your microphone, in-app/game audio, and your front camera (for the optional facecam overlay). All of this happens entirely on your device.

Recordings are written to local storage, either to the app's own storage or to a folder you choose yourself. Nothing you record is uploaded to us, to any server we operate, or to any third party. We don't have servers that store your recordings — there's nowhere for them to go but your device.

Trimming and merging recordings (including combining segments from long recording sessions into one file) also happens entirely on your device.

Permissions the app requests, and why

  • Screen capture — to record your screen. Requested fresh via Android's system dialog every time you start a recording; never silent.
  • Microphone — only if you enable mic recording in Settings.
  • Camera — only if you enable the facecam overlay (Premium feature).
  • Display over other apps — for the floating recording controls. Also requires your manual approval; no app can be granted this silently.
  • Notifications — to show the recording status and pause/stop controls while recording.
  • Internet / network state — used only by the two third-party services below (ads and purchases). The app has no other use for network access.

You can decline or later revoke any of these in Android's app settings; the corresponding feature simply won't work until it's granted again.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

Free-tier use of the app shows a single interstitial ad, provided by Google AdMob, before a recording starts. Premium users never see ads.

AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and personalize ads, and to measure ad performance. We don't control what AdMob collects or how long it's retained — that's governed by Google's own policies, not ours:

Purchases (Google Play Billing)

Premium is sold as a one-time purchase through Google Play's billing system. When you buy Premium, the transaction — including any payment details — is handled entirely by Google Play; we never see or store your payment information.

The app only receives confirmation from Google Play that a purchase was made, which it uses to unlock Premium features on your device. That entitlement is tied to your Google account, so it's restored automatically if you reinstall the app or move to a new device.

What we don't do

  • We don't run analytics or crash-reporting tools that collect usage data.
  • We don't require an account, login, or any personal information to use the app.
  • We don't sell or share your data, because we don't collect any to begin with — aside from what AdMob and Google Play Billing handle directly, as described above.

If a future version of the app adds a feature that changes this (for example, an optional cloud backup), this policy will be updated first, and that feature will be opt-in.

Children's privacy

Chaos Screen Recorder is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. As noted above, the app itself collects no personal data; AdMob's own policies govern ad personalization and any applicable child-directed treatment.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a new feature changes what data is accessed — we'll update this page and revise the date at the top.
